LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) — After years of planning and fundraising, construction on Lexington’s Town Branch Park got its official start Tuesday.

You could call it a groundbreaking, but it was more of a concrete breaking, cracking into the Manchester Parking Lot near Central Bank Center and Rupp Arena as the audience broke into a hearty round of applause.

It takes some imagination to picture the spot where officials and supporters were standing as a bustling park. Allison Lankford, the park’s executive director agrees – for now.The park will be connected to the Town Branch Trail and feature a 4,000-seat amphitheater, water play area, dog park and other amenities.
